Golf Swing

HUM YOUR WAY TO A RHYTHMIC SWING (by Marc Solomon)
Hum Your Way To A Rhythmic, Tension-Free Swing

Tension is your golf swing's worst enemy. If you have tension in your arms and hands, you won't be able to release the club through the hitting area and you'll lose power and make inconsistent contact. If you have tension in your upper body, you'll never make a full turn and get the club into the proper position at the top - your swing will lack power and you'll find it difficult to bring the club head to the ball on the proper plane. Perhaps most important, when you're tense, it's very difficult to swing with a smooth, even tempo.

Here's an easy way to eliminate tension from your swing and start swinging with the proper tempo and rhythm. Hum. That's right, hum. The next time you're on the practice tee, hit balls while humming - out loud - to yourself. Try to keep the same volume and an even tone as you swing through impact. If you're tense, you'll sound like a revving motorcycle throttle; or, as your club nears impact, your chest cavity will tense up and you won't be able to get out a peep. Keep hitting balls until you are able to quietly and evenly
hum through impact and into your finish. You'll be amazed at how effortless your swing will start to feel - and how purely you start to strike the ball.

Use this drill to warm up before you play, or hum through a few practice swings on the course when you feel tension start to creep into your swing or when you sense your swing's tempo quickening after a few poor shots.
