Golf Swing

NEAR OR FAR? (Dan Pasquariello)

What starts the downswing? Although you need to feel the arms dropping into the slot as the first move in the transition, between back swing and downswing, where your arms are in relation to your body, during the back swing, determines the first move.

If your arms are NEAR your body on the back swing, then your legs should start the downswing since the arms are in the correct position. If your arms are FAR from the body, then your lead hip needs to clear in order to allow the arms to drop, followed closely by the legs moving laterally towards the target. These movements should be minimal and not violent, aggressive motions. Remember the arms are the carriers, or transporters of the golf club but in the natural, sequential order of movement the game is played from the feet, or ground, up.
