Putting

RIDE THE RAILS (Dan Pasquariello)

Train your putter to ride the rails and your putting stroke will be right on track to lower scores. Putting is both a visual and a kinesthetic (feel) activity. By utilizing the following drills, your technique will improve and you’ll develop a repetitive, pendulum-like putting stroke.

First, using a simple carpenters chalk, make a line five feet from the hole on a flat surface. Then simply putt the ball along the chalk line. This creates a visual picture that will carry over onto the course and make those three-footers a little less nerve-racking.

Secondly, place a 2x4 board on the green, and rest the heel of your putter against the board. From approximately three feet, stroke putts and change distances every 10 putts (one, two and three footers), while listening for the putts to fall. The board will guide you physically, acting as training wheels, promoting a proper pendulum-like putting stroke to ride the rails to consistency.
