| WATCH THE FACE (Dan Pasquariello) | |||
|
Golfers as a whole never realize what causes the ball to fly the way it does, and it remains an unsolved mystery. It really isn’t that complicated once you understand the cause and effect of the clubface at the point of impact. This moment of truth (clubface position) whether open, square or closed will determine curvature of ball in flight. To simplify the club’s path, visualize the face of a watch, on the ground, with the ball replacing the hands of a clock. The target is at twelve o’clock and six o’clock is straight away from the ball. There are different paths for every golfer; the ball flight will determine which path is best for you. For example, slicers leave the clubface open at impact so they need to swing in a circular motion similar to a tilted Ferris wheel, from seven o’clock to eleven o’clock. Hookers close the clubface at impact and need to swing from seven o’clock to one o’clock. Pushers and pullers lift the club abruptly, with their hands on the swing away, and are too steep or vertical causing the toe of the club to open or close at the point of impact… they need a seven o’clock to twelve o’clock motion.
