Golf Swing

CHECK YOUR BALL POSITION (Todd Lawton)
What you look for in a proper golf stance is that the shoulders are even with the toes or just a little bit ahead so you can get in a position that is reaching for the ball.

You should also make sure that your arms are relaxed and that your feet are backed away from the ball so that there is a gap between your body and arms. Your back should also be arched and your backside out of the way.

The knees should be flexed so that the position is "mobile," where you could jump from that position. If the weight is too much on the heels, you will not be active during the swing.

The last thing to notice about the posture is the arching of the back versus the plain of the shaft of the club. You want to notice that there is a constant angle created between the arch and shaft. Later, we will look at how that angle is maintained during the swing.

The most important thing to remember about posture is balance and to be in a good position to clear the club head away from the ball during the swing.

When lining up to the ball, make sure that your feet are shoulder width apart and that the ball is in the front third of your swing.

The balls are lined up in relation to your body according to the size of the club.

If you are using one of your larger clubs such as a 3 wood or 5 wood, the ball should be just inside your left instep. For a smaller club like your wedge or 9 iron, the ball should be just off your left ear. For middle irons, the ball would be positioned between the left ear and left instep.
