Checking the speed of the greens at an unfamiliar golf course: Take three balls to the practice putting green and go to the south fringe of the green and putt to the north fringe and then reverse the process north to south, east to west and west to east this will give you a good feel for any grain in the greens and really will help with the speed. Improve your putting stroke: Take 5 balls and putt them without watching the roll never look at the roll of any ball only look down at the ball you are putting...you will find this will help you "feel" the distance as the group of balls form a close pattern. Improve your accuracy: Put a tee in the ground and putt to the tee. Start at about 3 feet and putt until all 3 balls hit the tee and then move to 6 feet and putt until all 3 balls hit the tee then keep increasing the distance to a distance of 12 feet. When you are able to hit the golf tee consistently the hole will look as large as a wash tub when you go on the course. These tips, lots of practice and luck will improve your putting. Confidence is the key to good putting. Good luck and have a great round!!! Steve Hockenberry PGA Golf Professional Las Vegas, Nevada email: hsteve686@aol.com
