Here is a little tip to help add a few extra
yards. I have found that most mid to high handicappers underestimate the
importance of a good solid coil in the back swing. The lack of this coil
could reduce your overall distance.
So here is a little drill to help get back those few extra yards that are hiding in your swing. Remember, always stretch before doing any drills or practicing. Take your five iron and hold it across the front of your shoulders by crossing your arms and holding the shaft in place with your forearms crossed. Each hand should be on the opposite shoulder, ie. right hand on left shoulder and vice versa. For right handed players make sure that the grip end of the club is on the left side. Now stand like you were addressing a golf ball and make your normal shoulder turn. Pay close attention to where the grip end of your club is pointing. Now while holding this turn, make sure that the club is at 90 degrees to your foot line, or target line. If it is not, turn so it is. Also, make sure that your shoulders are directly over your right foot. Check out the pressure points. Make sure you feel pressure on your INNER right thigh and INSIDE of your right foot. If the pressure, or weight, is felt on the out side, you have made an incorrect shoulder turn. Try it with a practice swing and feel for the same pressure points. |
