PRE-SHOT
ROUTINE
CONT'D
5) 'All Putts Are Dead Straight'. This is true from a mechanical stroke stand point. Only the condition of the green's surface should make the ball curve, not your stroke.
6) You can be the best putter around. Making 'Putts' requires very little athletic ability as do long straight drives.
7) Always make 'Three Brush Strokes before you Paint The Picture '. Do not just step up and hope your swing will get the job done. 'Set-Up' and make three practice swings to 'Feel The ENERGY' you need and have selected to move the ball all the way from 'A to B' plus another '12 to 17 inches'. As Yogi
Berra said, "90% of my putts that come up short do not go in'!
8) Count or say in your mind, 'One And Through' as you are making 'Putting Strokes'. This will help you create beneficial 'Tempo and Rhythm' which are necessary in making those consistent 'Short Strokes'.
9) When you have a 'Dead Straight Putt', one with no break, you can stroke the ball right into the hole. If you have a roll that is 'Outside The Cup' (certainly more the one cup width) you must NOT make your stroke relative to the cup. As soon as you have more than about four inches of 'Break' make your 'Stroke Down The Ball Rolling Line' ('BRL' in our 555 Golf Academy jargon) to the 'Top Of Break' and NOT in reference to the actual hole. There is a distinct reason for this. If you do not know it, 'E-Mail Me' and ask!
10) When you have made you last look 'Down The Line and Back to the Cup' just before taking the blade away, store the 'Ball Rolling Path' as a 'Mental Picture' and stroke the ball directly down this line. As your 'Putter Blade' is set in motion, and until the ball 'Comes To Rest', 'Do NOT Rotate either your Eyes or your Head' to have a look. If you rotate your Eyes, you will rotate your ears and then you will have rotated your Shoulders. The die will have been cast!
Listen for the rattle of the ball's going in the cup or the applause of the crowd! Dreaming? You should too!
11) Our 'Teaching Staff' has two more items that are of importance in your 'Putting Success' called the 'One Inch Rule' and the 'Baseboard Drill'. If your curiosity has been wetted, contact the 'Team' and one of us will answer you directly or you can attend one of our great 'Focus On Fundamentals Clinics'.
You should develop a 'POST SHOT ROUTINE' or evaluation as well. We can talk about that another time.
'SHORT GAME IS 75%'
Remember, 'Putting' is about 50% of your strokes and your 'Short Game' is about 75%'. How many of you spend '75% of your total annual practice time working diligently and smartly on your 'Short Games'?
