| LOOK AT THE HOLE WHILE PUTTING (Kati Biszantz) | |||
|
Especially good for beginners but when advanced players get in a slump, this drill or even style works wonders. Try looking at the hole instead of the ball when putting.
This gets you from staying too focused on the stroke or ball rather than the target. Start with 3 foot putts and work back. This has many advantages. It keeps you from moving (as you are already looking at the hole so won't look up); makes you target-oriented so now the right part of the brain can make all the computations (imagine throwing a ball to someone - you don't look at the ball or your hand and don't think how); allows you to be mis-aligned and still make the putt. It also encourages you to stroke the putt towards the target rather than hit at the ball which causes the wrists to break down resulting in poor contact. On longer putts, feel is greatly enhanced - like pitching pennies! |
