From Kevin Dietche, golfer:
"I was looking at a golf ball, and I saw little numbers inside the dimples. I was wondering what they were for?"
PGA/LPGA TEACHING PROFESSIONAL RESPONSES:
Florida
"Those numbers mostly identify the kind of ball." - Patricia Kimball, Teaching Professional
Maryland
"Kevin: In response to your question about the numbers in the dimples on a golf ball... I remember years ago when the Spalding Molitor Ball was introduced. It was created by a Dr. Molitor for Spalding and every golf ball produced had a number on it to track any possible defects in production so as to pinpoint the location on the assembly line where the problem exists. These numbers I believe are still used to track production." - David Campbell, Teaching Professional
Texas
"Numbers and letters are not important." - Bob Hasbrouck, Teaching Professional
