From J.H., golfer:
How do you determine the distance from your toes to the ball while the clubs vary in length....is this like spine angle?......looking down the cheekbones?.....I am 6 foot 4 and I squat more to hit a hook and stand more erect for a cut......give me a clue?

"J.H.: To determine your proper distance from the ball for all clubs. Take and make a fist off your left leg and let the butt end of the club rest on your thumb, this should give you the proper distance to stand from the ball. Another way to determine the distance is to take your address posture and address the golf ball. Now take your right hand and swing it straight back from the club, then swing it back to the club, if your hand goes over top of the club then you are to close to the ball, if it passes underneath the club then you are to far away from the ball. These are the two best ways I know to determine the proper distance from the ball." - Ben Hynson, Teaching Professional

"In years of teaching I've never measured how far the club is from the toes. Rather, I have my students bend from the waist, and hang their arms almost straight down, reaching comfortably for the ball with the club. That usually means having the hands just about straight down from the chin when addressing the ball. Take a look at the pros in their "down the line" pictures at address. Look where there hands are. Good luck with your game!" - Bob Benning, Teaching Professional
