- The stance for iron shots is slightly
narrower than that of woods. Woods require a wider stance because of
the longer club length.
- Adjust your posture according to the
club length and distance from the ball.
- Position the ball center to forward of
center for irons and target side of center for woods.
- The swing motion in the irons is more
vertical in shape than that of the woods. Using woods requires a
long, wide, fluid swing.
- The ball positions for driver and
fairway woods are slightly different due to the lie of the ball. The
driver is on a tee, and the fairway wood is on the ground. With the
driver, position the ball more toward your target foot with the ball
on the tee to create a sweeping to level contact with the ball. The
ball position with the fairway woods is about two inches back from
your target heel. The club contacts the ball slightly downward to
level.
- Constantly assess direction and distance
on the range.
- Select the club that gives you
confidence and success.
- When in doubt, select the iron with more
loft. Loft is forgiving.
- If you need high trajectory into a green
and have a choice of a long iron or utility wood, choose the wood.
