Chipping

CHIPPING SUCCESS CHECKLIST
  • Anticipate roll. Visualize the outcome: ball pops up, lands and rolls. Imagine where the ball needs to land to roll to the target.
  • When selecting a club for your chip shot, consider the following: lower irons (5,6,7) will create more roll and less loft whereas using higher irons (8,9,wedge) will result in more loft and less roll.
  • Base your club selection on the following:

--Distance from the green, how much fairway or fringe you have to chip over

              --Lie of the ball

              --Distance from the flagstick

              --Roll desired

  • When in a situation where you could chip or pitch, chip. It is a higher-percentage shot and more versatile in club selection and assorted lie conditions.
